Only eat it if it's tender and young. If it's a bit old it tastes like dried wood.

Ade.

Cracking pics there Laird. I must watch this fungi thread more closely as it is my favourite past time.

They are as follows:

1. Honey Fungus (Armillaria Mellea). Interesting these fellas as they have bio-luminescent roots (they can glow in the dark). Edible in small amounts

2. Mycenna family I think but not 100% positive.

3. Coral fungus (Clavulina Coralloides). Dont eat!

4/5/6. Common puffball. Edible when white throughout.

7. Common Yellow Brittle Gill (Russula). Edible but too earthy for my own taste.

8. Not doing this one as I bloody hate the tiny brown buggers! Been studying them for years and they frustrate the sh!te out of me!

9. Another Honey Fungus.

Hope this helps. Remember tho, I am an enthusiastic amateur not a professional mycologist, so don't sue my ass if you die!

;)

Ade.

cheers Ade, add some pics if you have got them mate, and I'll edit my pics with the names.
The more I'm studying them the more complicated its becoming as there are so many variations and similarities.

Probably not a good idea if I upload my pics mate. I've been studying for about 18 years and at the last count I had 9000 pics !

Although it may be a good idea to start an easy to follow fungi guide. This way we could list the main 5-6 easy to identify, can't go wrong, won't get confused with anything else, common edible fungi.

What do ya think?

Ade.

Sounds good to me. :)

My copy of "Food for free" arrived today, looking through it I spotted "Jew's ear" which I see regularly on some old Elderberry bushes at the bottom of my garden. :D

sounds like a damn fine idea, I see so many and know nothing in depth about varieties, I was okay-ish on a few common edibles but since I started reading I get confused.

I have mushrooms that pop up in my front lawn every autumn and have always wondered what they are?

Attached photos. They range in size from 5-15cm diameter and are all of the same variety.
See attached (I hope):

Had this with my breakfast whilst out camping at the weekend. It's "Wood Hedgehog" fungi.

Note the spines on the underside of the fungi body. Tasted wonderfully nutty.
