Think I have 4 sort of mushrooms I`m comfortable to pick and eat, no idea what they are called in English or Latin though.

None of them are of the magic persuasion...

Harry If you have pictures post them up here in this thread, the same to everyone else, if we can build up a decent portfolio of pics I'll edit the thread down to a reference section, should be fun to compile and useful for future reading :D

How the bloody hell did I miss this thread?!

A fungi question and I missed it!! Christ almighty I must be getting old.

In my humble opinion, the top is definitely a Parasol Mushroom, Second looks very much like an Orange Birch Bolete, third looks like a Brown Birch Bolete, fourth looks like possibly a member of the Clitocybe or Agrocybe family but can't say for certain (need more pics/location etc), fifth possibly Leccinum Crocipodium, sixth Hypholoma, Seventh Is Amanita, 99% certains it's a Panther Cap.

Thanks for this. Let's have more fungi!!!

Ade.

Found this one in my orchard today, the geese had knocked it off one of my Damson trees. About 6in across at its widest point, it had been growing on the trunk a couple of inches above ground level.

I'm pretty sure it's a bracket fungi, and probably inedible or the geese would have necked it. 8-)

Further to our chat at the GNG, and thanks again to you and yours for an excellent presentation and delicious samples, can you give an opinion about this?

I reckon it's Burdock in it's second year and way past it's best now.

Cheers, Dave. :)

Post guess the mushroom
Hi Dave.

The good news is that the fungi is easy to identify. It's an old Chicken of the Woods. Past it's best by the look of it but it may come back next year.

The Burdock is defo a second year specimen. If you dig a shallow hole and sprinkle in some of the seeds, you should have a tasty treat this time next year.
